Crossfield is a fast growing community situated only 51 km north of the City of Calgary, and 16 km north of the City of Airdrie. It is a small town with plenty of atmosphere! Despite it's continual growth, this community is retaining it's 'small town' feeling without the encumbrance of a large city. The advantage to Crossfield is in close proximity to all city amenities necessary.
When the section of the railroad from Calgary to Crossfield was completed in 1890, a large number or settlers arrived from eastern Canada and the central part of the United States. By the spring of 1903 all available land was taken up. Settlers soon transformed the surrounding prairie into productive farmland, and the siding became a major service centre. By 1903, Crossfield had an impressive list of essential business and on September 14, 1907, was incorporated as a village. By 1910 the main street extended for three blocks. In 1924 the centre block was gutted by fire but was rebuilt soon after.
The community thrives on its strong volunteer base, and the commitment and dedication of these volunteers and services group members. The many organizations and service groups offer everyone plenty of opportunities to volunteer and participate in many worthwhile community endeavors such as The Crossfield Day Camp, Crossfield Ag Society, Crossfield and District Recreation Board, Crossfield Community Center Board, Rocky View Adult Further Education, the Crossfield Volunteer Fire Department, the Pete Knight Memorial Arena Management Board, Pete Knight Rodeo Society, Elks, Legion, Lions, Eastern Star, Royal Purple and the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.
Local employment is readily available in the community within the industrial area, and many businesses. Crossfield is proud of their large community center, parks, tennis courts, curling rink, as well as many outdoor recreational areas for baseball, and soccer fields.
Today, Crossfield has a population almost 2,400 people and it's land mass covers just shy of 4 square kilometers.
