Fox Creek is a full-service community that acts as a major service centre for tourism, oil, gas, forestry, and environmental industries. Just two and one-half hours northwest of Edmonton, on Highway 43, you will find a great place to plan a weekend excursion or a two week vacation. Visitors are surprised to find a bustling, progressive community 82 kilometres from any other inhabited part of Alberta. On July 19, 1967, Fox Creek was officially incorporated as an Alberta community. Despite it's beginnings as a small service station on a quiet country road, Fox Creek now has about seven thousand vehicles drive by daily.
The Tourist Information Centre provides a welcome stop for travelers and a children's playground is safely located on one side (away from the Highway). Also, there are covered picnic tables peacefully located on the Highway side, specifically designed for the mature 'empty-nester' travelers. You can take a walk on the scenic walking trail or walk around the full-scale drilling rig. The Don Nicolson Trail was completed in 1998 and begins at the Tourist Information Centre and includes two foot bridges over the Fox Creek where visitors to the trail can relax and enjoy the natural habitat. In the summer, stop and enjoy a swim in the outdoor pool.
Fox Creek boasts the Silver Birch Golf Club, one of the most scenic and best maintained nine hole golf courses in northwestern Alberta.
There is a municipal campground located in Town, and two lake campgrounds are conveniently located just minutes from downtown. They provide the visitor with a full range of recreational activities. 'Camping at the Lake' means that you may not be the only one on the water, but you'll certainly not be crowded.
Today, Fox Creek has a population just over 2,000 people and it's land mass covers about 8 square kilometers.
